Описания благочестивой, нежной и милосердной королевы легли в основу популярного представления об Элеоноре, которое складывалось веками и подверглось сомнению лишь недавно, благодаря современным исследованиям. Тем не менее никто не оспаривает, что Элеонора являлась образцовой и преданной женой. Именно на этом факте, наряду с историей о том, как она высосала яд из раны Эдуарда, и также на красивых крестах, воздвигнутых безутешным супругом в память о ней, в значительной степени зиждется легенда об Элеоноре Кастильской.
